Kalosoriste stin Kavala (Welcome to Kavala) to the beautiful city which doesn’t look like any other Greek cities. In the Middle Ages here were residing Romans and the Slavs, several times it was conquered by the Bulgarians and for 5 centuries it was a Turkish territory. Only in the 20th century Kavala became an inherent part of Greece and today Kavala is modern and popular among tourists due to its outstanding beaches, developed infrastructure, numerous taverns and shops, a rich choice of entertainment and sightseeing. With the sparkling water of the Aegean Sea in the background, Kavala is picturesque, full of character and its old town can easily be covered on foot. After the group meeting, perhaps enjoy a meal with the group so you can get to know your fellow travellers.
Start the day with a Kavala walking excursion with a guide to the historical places and sights of the city, enjoying views of the sparkling Aegean Sea in this undisputed jewel of Greece. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy all that Kavala has to offer. Visit the main museums of the city: the Archaeological Museum - where are unique exhibits from Kavala and from Thasos Island, the Municipal Museum with several rooms and the Tobacco Museum. And what's more, in Kavala are plenty of warm beaches to relax on. You might like to take a swim, walk around the beaches near Kavala town, pay a visit to the close vilages, go shopping, or just soak up the Greek ambience.
Today is a free day for you to visit magnificent beaches of Kavala and definitely enjoy of swimming in the Aegean Sea.
This morning grab a bus to the antique complex of Northern Greece where our guide will take you on a leisurely hike through the ancient city of Philippi which was owned by the King of Macedonia Philip II the father of Alexander the Great. Here you can see the buildings of the ancient city, the ruins of the Roman city, Christian churches and the central Egnatiev road, the fragments of which can now be repeated the way of the Apostle Paul. Close to the Ancient City of Philippi you will see a unique and monumental Baptistery of St. Lydia. This modern architectural monument is located exactly at the place where the Apostle Paul baptized the first Christian in Europe - Lydia, and it was performed here the first baptism in Europe. And next to the temple on the bank of the river there is an open baptistery in the shape of a cross like those that were preserved in the early Christian basilicas in Philippi. Afternoon the bus drop you off to Kavala where you can continue your beach vacation.
There are no activities planned for the final day and you are able to depart the accommodation at any time or according to our bus schedule to the airports of Kavala or Thessaloniki.
