In the Middle Ages Romans and the Slavs were residing here, several times it was conquered by the Bulgarians and for 5 centuries it was a Turkish territory. Only in the 20th-21st century Kavala became an inherent part of Greece. All this historical facts has strongly affected the architecture of the city - it has a very diverse appearance. There are not so many local residents here: about 70,000 people live in Kavala, however almost half a million people visit the city as tourists, and together with nearby islands the number of tourists is accustomed to 1 million people every year. The beauty of the settlement, its location and rich history attract many people to the city. Kavala has become a tourist destination in Greece, but hasn’t lost its original charm, but on the contrary has developedall the necessary infrastructure.
