
Granite island of Samothraki
According to legend, it is the highest point of this unique and amazing island where was one of the residences of the ancient Greek gods, from where Poseidon followed the siege of Troy.
And According to the legend in this island the king of Macedonia Philip II and his wife Olympiada conceived their son - the Great Alexander. Samothraki is famous for its archaeological treasures and one of the main attractions is the Shrine of the Great Gods - the archaeological museum in the open air and the place where was found the famous statue of Nika Samothracian (Winged Victory Goddess) which is now in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The height of the highest point of the island is 1660 m, the total area of the island is 178 km² with a coastline of 59 kilometers. Samotrace located at a distance of 24 miles from the mainland (the city of Alexandroupolis) and 60 miles from Kavala. About 3,000 local residents reside on the island and in summer the population increases in size thanks to the tourists who have not yet fully experienced the mythical island.
